                                  The Scoop On Mystery Shopping

Imagine yourself sitting by the pool at a five star hotel with your husband. You take a cool dip and then head upstairs to your room where you begin typing a paragraph on the safety and cleanliness of the pool. You close your laptop and head off to a fine dining restaurant. You enjoy the steak dinner and head back to type on your laptop. The entire vacation, your 2 night stay and meals, is going to be comped and you are going to get paid $500 for your 10 page report of your experience.  Is this scenario for real? Yes it is and I am going to share with you how to do it. I have been a Gold certified mystery shopper for two years.  It took me an entire year of shopping to get my first resort shop, and it has been really fun along the way.

I am going to share my secret information with you now, so get your Coffee and pull up a chair. First, you are going to need to do a few things. Go and get a spiral notebook. This is where you will keep all of your mystery shopping information. Second, if you are serious about this, you are going to need a high speed internet connection. I recommend that you use SBC Yahoo DSL . I have a few friends who are not too happy with their cable internet service and mystery shoppers need internet access 24/7 to do this job well. A dial up network is not going to cut it.  I also recommend buying the book Mystery Shopping Made Simple. After reading this book, you will have the knowledge you need to take an online exam that I will tell you more about as we go along.

The first concept that you need to learn about mystery shopping is that as a mystery shopper, you will be an independent contractor (as a shopper) for many companies. So if you did this full time, you might work for 10 different companies in one day. Signing up for companies,  is the part that takes a little time. Here is a good company to start signing up with www.secretshopper.com just to see how the process works. The  Mystery Shopper Providers Association, has a web site that lists all the registered MSPA companies who hire mystery shoppers. You will need to go to this site to find a list of companies that you can work for.  www.mysteryshop.org

Before you start signing up, you are going to need to choose a log in name and password . Got one? Good then write it down in your spiral notebook and don't forget it.  To keep yourself organized you are going to use the same one for every company that you shop for.

You will need to make a list of companies that you have signed up for.

So now what? Go to this page http://www.mysteryshop.org/searchmspa/search.php and search for companies! I would shop by industry.  If you want to know who shops hotels, choose hotels.  Print a list out and start signing up to shop for these companies!

You may have to take a brief exam for some companies. What I would suggest that you do is start out by signing up for 4 companies. Then every night I would get on and sign up for 4 more companies. This way it is not as overwhelming.

The companies will either send you emails telling you they have work available or they will ask you to check their database. They will let you know what you have to do to find shops for there specific company. You may want to highlight those companies that require you to check there database each day in your spiral notebook so you can separate them from the ones who will contact you. Bookmark the websites to your favorites on your computer.

What are you waiting for?  Start shopping!

Rule: Don't every pay anyone or a company to become a mystery shopper. Companies that are real will hire you for free!
